If you live in a house and you aren’t using your loft space, you are missing out on a lot of available space that could be put to good use.
People have a lot of reasons for wanting to use their loft space. Some people simply keep items and belongings up there that they don’t use very often. Other people might convert their loft space into somewhere that they can keep wine or beer that they have either bought or brewed at home.
Still more people use their loft space to create a peaceful space away from the rest of the house. They might decorate it accordingly and use that loft ladder as an escape ladder into another part of the house that is more secluded!
As you can see there are lots of ways that loft space can be used. And when you do so you will find that you can use the rest of your house in a better way as well. For example, instead of struggling to find storage space in other rooms for items you hardly use, you can put shelving and other storage solutions up in the loft instead.
If you are thinking about making the most of all the space you have in this part of your home, you should plan the area out just as carefully as you would any other room. What purpose will the space have? What pieces of furniture or shelving will you need up there? Will you want to put plasterboard or something similar up there to enable you to paint the slanted sections of the roof to lighten it up a bit?
There are lots of considerations to think about, and as such you will be better off starting by measuring out the space and deciding what it will be used for. Think about the practicality of the space as well with the head height that is involved. You may not be able to stand up fully in the whole of the space, so think about whether you could use some of it more appropriately for storage and so on.
By doing this you will be leaving the middle of the loft open for other uses. If the floor is boarded out you could even carpet it, making the room much cosier and more attractive to use for a number of purposes.
If you are going to make your loft into an area like this which can be used for a multitude of purposes, then it certainly pays to get a good strong loft ladder to use. The more attractive you can make your loft, the more likely it is that you will be using it on a more regular basis. As such you won’t want a rickety old loft ladder that you are scared to use.
Buy a good strong one that has handrails as well. This will make you more inclined to use it with ease, so you can enjoy your new loft space more often.
