Do You Need To Get A Better Loft Ladder?

Thursday September 9, 2010

Depending on what you use your loft space for you might be up and down your current loft ladder quite often. Alternatively you may hardly use it at all.

But regardless of how often you use it, it pays to take a closer look at it once in a while. If you haven’t bought a new loft ladder in several years the chances are good that it is time to invest in a new one.

The good news is that modern loft ladders are strong and exceptionally well built. You will have a choice of lots of wooden ladders as well as metal ones, so whatever décor you have in the room below the loft – and whatever style you want to have – you should be able to find something suitable to buy.

The first thing to do if you have decided to get a better ladder is to look at the one you have got. It might sound a little strange but try climbing up it into the loft and coming back down again. If the ladder feels a bit fragile you know you will need to get a stronger one. In addition you can decide whether the material it is made from is going to be ideal for your next ladder as well, or whether you want to swap to something else instead.

Loft ladders vary so much in construction and price that it can be difficult choosing your next one. Think about how often you are likely to use your loft in the future too, as this could affect the type of ladder you want to get. Generally speaking the more you will be using it the tougher and more robust the ladder needs to be. Will your current ladder stand up to the job, or will you need to buy a stronger and more expensive one?

Another point to consider is whether you want a proper handrail on the ladder. Not all of them have these and if you feel a bit uncomfortable climbing the loft ladder you may be happier if you have a handrail to hold onto.

You can tell that by climbing your existing ladder you can spot any necessary points to think about when you buy your new one. The more confident you are at spotting what you need or don’t need, the easier it will be to invest in your new ladder.
